An extra curriculum activity after class at school in English
​

Overview

​

1 class a week for 2.5 hours during 5 months (20 classes)

+ 4 consecutive Saturday’s before opening (4-hour rehearsals)

to put together 70 minutes of a musical.

 

The final showing is performed at your school or at a well-equipped theatre

in the neighborhood for 2 performances on a Saturday and 1 on a Sunday.

Classes divided into two groups

 

ON STAGE group

Enjoy group acting exercises, vocal warm ups, singing in voices, learning lines  and steps

of choreography. Sometimes they’ll be subdivided into smaller groups for a more

focused rehearsal.

 

BACKSTAGE group

Research designs, manufacture props and scenery. Later they help with scene and

costume changes, designing microphone charts and technical scripts, operating

sound tracks and lighting cues. Learning to receive instructions from their peers.

 

Students have ½ an hour after school before the classes begin to have their snack.

 

Premises required

 

ON STAGE group

  • Large space preferably with wooden floor and PA system for dancing.

  • Medium space for acting.

  • Smaller room with a piano for singing.

 

BACKSTAGE group

  • Large space for painting and carpentry.

  • Space to store props and scenery.

The team for each group is present at every class, rehearsal & performance.

BACKSTAGE group

Getting to know each other investigation, historical background, getting designs and material together,

basic handywork in preparation, discovering hidden talent. (2 classes)

Set Construction physicalizing the design, discovery of individual talent, division of labor,

clearing up squadron. (12 classes)

Open day A day parents are invited to come and see the process. (1 class)

Technical visit to the theatre to gain a vision of the space and the technical facilities. (1 class)

Putting it together taking an active part in rehearsal working in different areas. Lighting, sound, props,

costume changes, crew. (2 classes)

 

Production week at the theatre

Technical rehearsal adjusting everything to the new space. (1 class)

Dress rehearsal run the show as if it were a performance. (1 extra class in the same week)

 

SHOW TIME three performances on the weekend.

 

Cast Party & feedback final rap up at school with certificates and bring and share tea. (1 class)

Putting it together  we add the BACKSTAGE group to run the show. (2 classes)

 

Production week at the theatre

Technical rehearsal adjusting everything to the new space. (1 class)

Dress rehearsal run the show as if it were a performance. (1 extra class in the same week)
